In the leaves of the trees, they take in [[carbon dioxide and water]] from the atmosphere. With the help of sunshine, photosynthesis takes place to release oxygen into the atmosphere, contributing to [[greenhouse gas reduction]]. From a different point of view, without the help of these microorganisms, the mountain trees would not be able to grow and [[maintain the mountain's environment]]. Microorganisms are the keystone.

The mountains are maintained without any human intervention, without the trees getting sick, dying, and completely bare. It's very difficult to do, but this reproduction is ideal. In the fall, when [[the temperature starts to drop]], the mountains turn red, and when the temperature drops further, the leaves fall off. This is something that is repeated every year. In the mountains, the dead leaves that fall to the ground at the trees' base become food for the soil [[microorganisms->soil environment]] and are decomposed. The decomposed material becomes the nutrients for the trees [[again->Uncle's story]], so that the trees continue to grow without any diseases even if we do not supply the mountains with nutrients. Even if we rake up the fallen leaves from the mountain and put them in the field, the same thing happens in the area as it does in the mountain.

Agriculture is said to be [["biological production"->Tree Doctor Story in Koto City ]] to produce agricultural products. However, it is not the factory that grows this crop. Still, the field, the soil, and just as a healthy personality is nurtured from a favorable environment, it is necessary to prepare the [[soil environment]] suitable for crop cultivation to produce a good quality crop. To do this, we want the soil environment to be as natural as possible, which is the main reason why we decided to use [[deciduous leaves]].

In Koto city, there are about 42 communities garden. [[Midor Net Koto]] is connecting the garden and local people for more than 20 years. One of the tree doctors tells me about [[soil->soil environment]] and the [[ecosystem in Koto city]].

The day I came to Tokyo, he told me the octopus was coming tomorrow and went to buy an aquarium. How do octopuses come? I asked. He told me that one had to go to the fishmonger's and buy it on pre-order. I was afraid that if one bought it at the fishmonger's, it would be dead, but he said, "The octopus was brought in this morning from the sea. I asked the fishmonger to keep it alive." I wondered at this [[this story->Uncle's story]].

On our way to the [[fishmonger]]'s to pick up the [[octopus->SPACE WALK #2]], I asked him if he had bought some octopus bait. He said he didn't need to feed the octopus because he would return it to the sea in three days.

Tomorrow we will bury the octopus on the [[pine tree->"Ukiyo-e painting."]].

I felt very depressed. Because he torture the octopus to death and he didn't seem to be sorry for it at all. He paused to grieve, but ultimately he didn't love the octopus one bit.

When he said he wanted to keep an octopus, I was far away from the [[Morishita studio]], imagining how he would live. I thought it would be fascinating to live with an octopus.

We couldn't find our [[octopus->SPACE WALK #2]] here. As [[typhoon]] came this summer, they closed this place. People used to come [[here->Morishita studio]] to fish and meet octopus.

I asked him what we should do with the [[octopus->SPACE WALK #2]]. He said we should leave it alone. He said he would keep it in the aquarium and display it as part of his work. I was furious and protested to him. If he really felt sorry for the dead octopus, he wouldn't put it on display for anyone to see. If one of his friends died on stage, would he call it a [[performance]]? I was disappointed and sad again.

We cannot consider the relationship between [[plants and soil->soil environment]] in crop cultivation without considering soil microorganisms. In agriculture, crops are cultivated in the soil in the field. At [[the micro-level->Octopus Story]], we believe that agricultural products result from the interaction between plant roots and soil microbes. It is probably not an exaggeration to say that [[crop production]] would not be possible without soil microbes.

"We are [[restoring->a lot of time]] sea fishing facilities (about 577 meters) damaged by Typhoons No. 15 and No. 19 that hit in 2020."

The [[dead leaves]] thrown into the soil are decomposed by soil microorganisms and transformed into a form that can be absorbed by the plants' roots and then absorbed by the plants, contributing to crop production. On the other hand, the microorganisms use dead leaves and [[organic substances (sugars) secreted by plant]] roots as [[food]]. This is the relationship between plant roots and microorganisms through these substances.

From this point on, I hypothesize a reciprocal relationship between the plant root and the microorganism that communicates with each other. The plant communicates to the microorganisms in the vicinity of the root using a substance secreted by the plant, what kind of nutrients it needs, and how the microorganisms that receive the message to [[decompose->Deconstruction]] dead leaves and provide the [[nutrients]] to the root. On the other hand, we believe that there is a symbiotic relationship between the microorganisms and the roots, where the microorganisms produce organic matter specific to the roots and transmit the substances needed by the microorganisms. I have not been able to find a way to prove this working hypothesis, but I am sure that someone will be able to prove it in the future.

Also, the distribution of the microbiota varies with the family of the plants we grow.
Moreover, the symbiotic relationship between plants differs according to their species. Continuous cultivation of the same species could be a working hypothesis. Still, it is thought that the bias in the microbiota caused by the continuous cultivation of the same species could be a result of the accumulation of the same pathogen or the metabolites produced by the pathogen. It is. Proving this working hypothesis, though, is a task that takes [[a lot of time]].

As the soil in the field that has been continuously fed with dead leaves gradually turns darker, fluffier, and softer, a change in the weeds' flora will appear. Weeds that have firm roots in hard soil disappear and are replaced by weeds that are quickly shed. Clearly, this is the result of the changes in the [[soil environment]] brought about by microorganisms that affect the types of weeds that grow in the soil. These are just some of the things that are going through my mind on a regular basis as I work on the farm. Thank you.
Most of the soil in Koto city is made up of volcanic ash from [[Mt.Fouji]]. The soil in Tokyo itself is not very good, as it was severely damaged by the [[Great Kanto Earthquake]] and the Tokyo Great Tokyo Air Raids. Volcanic ash was naturally falling on Tokyo, but it was washed out to sea by the [[rivers]], and that didn't produce [[good soil->soil environment]].

I asked the arborist if the soil in Tokyo will change in ten years, even though they bring a lot of soil from different places. He said the soil would not change in 10 years. He said the soil doesn't change easily in ten years because the [[soil cycle]] is slow, so it doesn't change easily in ten years. When I asked him if the ecosystem would not change, the arborist said that plants and [[organisms' diversity]] could be ensured. In other words, [[micro-practices]] could change the larger ecosystem, which could change the future ecosystem in a bigger way than improving the soil first.
